The story

Heritage interpretation signs were installed at Parkmount Green in Mallusk and beside the remains of Roughfort Orange Hall as part of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Centenary Programme.

The Mallusk and Roughfort boards were created through collaboration between Roughfort Heritage and Cultural Preservation Society, Mallusk & District Community Support and Mallusk Community Action Group.

Each panel highlights local landmarks, people and events, giving residents and visitors an accessible way to explore the area’s history while standing close to the sites themselves.

The signs were officially opened on Thursday 23 February 2023 at Mallusk, with the Mayor, elected representatives and members of the community groups who helped with the project.

RHCPS records its thanks to Councillor Matthew Magill and Phillip Magennis, Culture and Heritage Officer, for helping organise and coordinate the wider project within the villages of the Airport Electoral District.

The completed boards are a lasting educational resource and demonstrate what can be achieved when local groups work together to preserve and promote local heritage.
